Guy Davis may be from New York City, but when you hear him play the guitar you are instantly transported to the Deep South. In his slick fingerpicking and confident vocals, Davis brings to mind a host of country blues artists, like Charley Patton, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Robert Johnson and Taj Mahal.

After joining Healdsburg Jazz Festival honoree Charlie Musselwhite and Elvin Bishop for the Blues on the Porch set May 31, Davis will perform this solo Blues Brunch the following morning at Davis Family Vineyards. This talented New Yorker has received over a dozen nominations for W.C. Handy blues awards over the years, maybe this will be his lucky year (for his new album Juba Dance). Even non-blues fans have heard his contributions to the Bob Dylan tribute albums, Nod to Bob (1 and 2). As an artist who not only embraces the bygone rural blues but re-creates it, Davis is as invaluable as he is entertaining. He’s on the web at guydavis.com

Davis Commemorative LabelThe bluesman shares the same name, Guy Davis, as the winemaker and proprietor of Davis Family Vineyards, where this special Healdsburg Jazz Festival event will take place. In addition, there’s a comic book artist also named Guy Davis, who created a special label for the Davis Family Vineyard wines (shown here). Two wines with this label will be available at the Blues Brunch, as part of the Wine Club June release. More info here.
