Drummer Sylvia Cuenca has thrived on New York City’s brutally competitive jazz scene since the mid-1980s, performing and touring with some of the music’s most illustrious artists. The San Jose native is the drummer of choice for trumpet legend Clark Terry, who’s featured her on a series of recordings. She’s toured internationally with the late tenor titans Joe Henderson and Michael Brecker, and gigged with major league cats such as Eddie Henderson, Gary Bartz, George Cables, Jimmy Heath, Joshua Redman and Nicholas Payton.

hotellobbyAs a bandleader with two impressive albums under her belt, Cuenca has assembled a challenging book with compositions by Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Donald Brown, and Kenny Kirkland. Friday and Saturday, Cuenca will lead exciting the sessions at the Healdsburg Hotel’s Fireside Lobby on both Friday and Saturday nights, with Frank Martin on piano and bassist Gary Brown.

These concerts have become known as the place to hang out after the Raven Theater concerts these nights — who knows who might show up to sit in?
