In the five decades since bossa nova burst onto the international music scene, Brazil has enriched the world with a glorious torrent of musical talent. Featuring some of the most revered Brazilian musicians on the planet, this festival within a festival showcases the South American nation’s mind-boggling array of rhythms, infinite trove of seductive melodies and affinity for modern jazz harmonies.

Once again our Sunday on the Green is being held at the city’s Recreation Park, a well-maintained open field that we turn into Rio de Janiero in the Wine Country, with locally-produced foods, wine and beer, Leny Andradeand souvenirs offered for sale, a nearby children’s park for the younger set, and plenty of room for dancing to the infectious rhythms that always seem to come from southern climes.

  1. The gates to the event open at Noon, so if you are interested in mid range seating, you might like to plan on arriving around 11:30 a.m. There are usually lines, one for those with tickets and will call and one for those purchasing tickets. At the south entrance of the park, there are your usual park type rest room facilities, along with some additional portapotties. On the north entrance, we have a couple solar units, still portable, but include inside wash area and mirror. Hope this helps! Love to see you there, Loretta, Venue Manager, Rec Park.

  2. To get a place on the green to sit mid range do you need to get in line before 12:30? Are the bathroom facilities the usuall in a park plus porta potties or just the latter?

  3. George, and Mary Ann — there’s plenty of room and good visibility of the stage at Rec Park, but you’re right that a wheelchair or high back chair should sit at the back of the crowd, especially if you bring your own sun umbrella — which you might want to! There are shade areas, primarily where food & beverages are available, but main festival seating is outdoors in “right field” with very little coverage.

  4. Just to clarify–it is OK to bring a higher back plastic patio chair, as long as we sit behind the others with lower back chairs? I am asking because one person in my party has a bad back and would be more comfortable in the patio chair.
    Thanks

  5. My son has multiple sclerosis , uses a wheelchair and is sensitive to hot weather BUT he would really like to go to the Brazil concert. Can you advise me re: accessibility and shade areas? Parking?

  6. Yes, you can bring a picnic lunch, even a small cooler. But not cans or glass, please, and our food and beverage vendors would appreciate your support!
You can bring a lawn chair, low-back only, unless you want to sit in the last row.

  7. Hello,
I have purchased tickets to the afternoon performance and would like to know if seating will be provided, or should we bring our own lawn chairs. Secondly, can we bring a picnic lunch or do we have to purchase food & beverages onsite?
(The ticket seller at the bookstore could not answer these questions and hope you can).
    Thank you!
